DFIR stands for Digital Forensics and Incident Response . It is comprised of two terms , Digital Forensics and Incident Response .

Digital Forensics

Digital forensic is a branch of forensic science that focuses on the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices related to a cyber crime.  It is also called as computer forensics. Digital forensics is the process of identifying, preserving, analyzing, and documenting digital evidence. This is done in order to present evidence in a court of law when required.

Incident Response

Incident response is a term widely used to describe the process used by an organization to handle information security data breach or cyber attacks .Incident response goal is to effectively manage the incident so that the damage is limited and both recovery time and costs, as well as any collateral damage such as brand reputation, are kept at a minimum.
